Páll Haukur’s exhibition The Basin of Truth opens in Ásmundarsalur on May 3rd at 6pm.

The basin of truth is a space of liminality–like the crossroads–where meaning gets assigned to our journeys. it is where we find ourself between the signified and its symbolic yet arbitrary counterpart. it is a place where guests are invited to draw a line or make an image, spell a word or a sentence with their fingers into the honey of the basin as long as it is a true thing. we beg that only truth enters the basin, for it is a place of fluctuating uncertainty, of doubt and vulnerability. the basin is a place where guests are invited to stoop down to meet their own golden reflection in the sweet-like surface and decide what is true enough to merit to be mixed with the honey, rupturing their own reflected image. it is a meditative performance hoping to invoke sympathy toward the complexity of truth. the basin is a receptacle for the stickiness of shared memory and collective truth, but also, it is an unorganised distribution of honey as it sticks to whoever passes through the basin of truth…
