Bernd Koberling is a leading figure of the German 1980s Neo-Expressionist movement known as the Neue Wilde. Often referencing the natural world, and inspired by Icelandic landscapes, his motifs portray an abandonment of purely figurative landscapes but have yet to lose themselves in complete abstraction. His works have been exhibited widely throughout a career that spans more than 60 years and is considered one of the most important German painters of his generation, as he continuously succeeds to develop and reinvent his artistic language.
